Kaiāwhina – Ākonga Engagement

Working directly with ākonga the Kaiāwhina mentors, motivates, encourages, challenges and supports ākonga, individually and in small groups guided by the project lead.

In the Kaiāwhina role you will work as part of a team to improve outcomes for ākonga by engaging them with their learning, and/or to successfully transition on to further education, training or employment. You will work at a venue in Masterton for 4 hours each day, and connect with ākonga online for the other 4 hours.

Te Kura’s vision is to enable our ākonga to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities.

We are looking for people with excellent interpersonal skills and an inclusive approach, able to quickly build rapport and trust with ākonga. You will be expected to be aware of the health and safety requirements for working with ākonga outside the classroom and comply with the school’s policies at all times. Knowledge and experience of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori is an advantage.
